What is osteoarthritis?
It’s a chronic alteration of the joints with an extensive impact on the lives of patients, mainly affecting knees, hips and the lumbar region of the spine.
What causes the pain?
OA affects the cartilages, whose surface layer is damaged and consumed. In this state, it’s difficult for the bone ends to slide one over the other. They eventually rub against each other and cause pain, swelling and the loss of mobility.
Hyaluronic Acid Treatment
When patients don’t find enough relief with normal painkillers, it’s possible to intervene with infiltrative hyaluronic acid therapies; one of the key components of synovial fluid in healthy joints.
How does it work?
The acid hyaluronic injections temporarily restore the viscoelasticity of the synovial fluid. The visco-supplementation is a process by which the physiological state and the rheological characteristics of the tissues of the joint affected by osteoarthritis are restored.
Intra-articular infiltrations should only be administered by authorized medical personnel.
